But sometimes approaches to atheism are the dumbest of all. |

What does approaches to atheism mean? I've alway thought that atheism means that you don't believe there is a god. Have I been deluded all these years? |

John Heder was also featured in a previous issue of GIANT magazine and that was one of the subjects that came up. The director of ND and his wife are also Mormons.
Brandon Flowers from THE KILLERS is also one, or at least he says so in his interviews. |

I think Joe is referring how some atheists can be just as fevered as those that are ultra religious in their approach to the belief (or lack thereof) |

Gee, I never knew that atheists held to any religious dogma, or even had the same moral beliefs as one another. I still don't know what approaches to atheism means.
I think Joe is just peeved because I think some religions are more stupid than others and he's lashing out at atheists because he is not one. And neither am I, but atheists are individuals, not an alternate religion. |

Personally, I think all organzied religion is wacked, but that's a personal opinion.
I agree atheists are individuals just as much as anyone that belongs to a religion. I'm just saying some are more fervent than others, acting almost religiously in their efforts. |

I think most organized religions ar wacked, but that's an impersonal opinion. Only a self centred individual would have an opinion that was personal. |

Personal opinons are considered self-centered? |

It means the way you express or embody your atheism. It also means the arguments you rely on to defend you position. There are schools of thought when it comes to atheism: existentialism, arguments based on the discoveries of science relating to evoluton, arguments based on flaws in religious argument.
But mainly, the post was a joke, based on your knee-jerk antagonism towards all things religious. I didn't expect you to get it. |

I see you either don't understand what I write or just have a knee jerk reaction to any criticism of any religion or any of their tenets. Welcome to the Billyweeds Club. |

I'm sure if you search the archives, you'll find a lively debate as to where atheism ends and agnosticism starts. Is atheism a denial of God's existence or the sense that there is nothing to deny, the onus of proof or justification lies elsewhere. |

I always choose "agnostic" on surveys or whatever when I'm asked, but when I choose it, I really mean "don't care." They never have that as an option. |

Religions aren't stupid per se. But you have to admit there are some religions that demand a higher level of credulity than others. You've really got to have a talent for suspension of disbelief to go for Scientology or Mormonism. Even the most cursory study of Elron Hubbard or Joseph Smith would cause a normally gullible person to titter with amusement at the absurdity of their claims-- but NO! They are thriving concerns with hundreds of thousands of adherents!
As Art Linkletter used to tell us on the radio, People Are Funny. |

Richard Dawkins' new the book, The God Delusion, may come to be seen as a marker for a new, more assertive and self-confident form of atheism. it is a long tmne since atheism was persecuted, but perhaps it has remained, cowed or embarrassed or wary of giving offence or worried about waking religious dogs. Athiest crusaders like Dawkins noe seem to be telling religion to put up or shut up. I think I was more relaxed being quietly smug. |
