BULLET IN THE HEAD
BULLET IN THE HEAD - directed by JOHN WOO (1990).
“One of the most intense, powerful, and profound cinematic motion pictures. BULLET IN THE HEAD (The original Cantonese title is known as DIE XUE JIE TOU.) is mesmerizing and perplexing, yet equally emotional motion picture that gives the audience a completely different perspective on the Vietnam War...and how this event has changed the lives of three friends forever.” David Choi.
BULLET IN THE HEAD starts out as an homage to Nicolas Ray’s “Rebel Without A
Cause” and evolves into a devastating look at the Vietnam war from an Asian point of view. - an epic masterpiece that stands with “The Deer Hunter” and ‘Apocalypse Now” as a war movie classic. This is John Woo’s uncut version. Must be seen on the big screen.

DEVDAS
DEVDAS - directed by SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI (2002).
"It does what the movies were meant to do: move, dance and swirl in the popular imagination.” Chicago Tribune.
“ DEVDAS is cinematic spectacle to the power of 10.” Empire Magazine.
The most expensive Indian film ever made, DEVDAS is a sumptuous looking movie that tells a story of forbidden love in typically flamboyant Bollywood style. It delivers all the romance and lavish musical numbers you expect of Indian popular film. Highly, highly recommended. DEVDAS was India’s entry in last years Oscar race for best foreign film.

FUDOH, THE NEW GENERATION (1996)

THE STORM RIDERS
THE STORM RIDERS directed by ANDREW LAU WAI-KEUNG (1998)
A mindblowing martial arts/fantasy flick from Hong Kong.
“After years of losing out at the box office to big-budget Hollywood movies, some of Hong Kong's most talented filmmakers teamed up to create The Storm Riders. Taking two years and over ten million dollars (both an eternity and fortune in the quick-paced and tight-budgeted world of HK cinema), the film created quite a storm of its' own upon release, becoming the top box-office draw for 1998 and revitalizing the wu xia (fantasy swordplay) genre.”
Hong Kong Cinema.

DIL SE
DIL SE directed by MANI RATHMAN (1998)
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND.
Come see why the last screening of DIL SE was packed to the rafters. Its simply breathtaking. The kind of movie that truly deserves being described as the “kind of movie they don’t make anymore.” But, of course in Bollywood they do make them. "Dil Se is a sweeping spectacular and a disturbing romance set against a backdrop of religious and nationalist fundamentalism, terrorism and violence. The painstakingly choreographed dance sequence filmed on top of a moving steam train as it speeds through the Himalayan highlands is a cinematic masterpiece, and any musical fan should see this film if only to appreciate this one scene." (Josef Mora)
Film scholar J. Mora will introduce the movie.

NAKED
NAKED directed by MIKE LEIGH (1993)
This screening of NAKED will be the first of a series of rarely seen classic films of the ‘70s,
‘80s and ‘90s. Yes, some of these films are available on video (Naked, for instance), but the video copies are often poor transfers of pan and scan versions of the films. Third Eye Film Society will screen only the best copies of the films in their original screen formats. In the case of NAKED, we have obtained a beautiful copy of the original widescreen version of the film.
NAKED stars David Thewlis in one of the most staggering performances of the past 2 decades.
The movie is raw, brilliant, tragic and bleakly funny - Mike Leigh’s masterpiece.
“NAKED is one of those rare motion pictures that refuses to slip easily from memory. Its images and themes linger long after the viewer has left the theater.” James Berardinelli
The film won both best director and actor at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival.

RANGEELA
RANGEELA -directed by RAM GOPAL VARMA (1995)
It's a classic success story -- small town girl takes Hollywood by storm. Or rather in this case - Bollywood. The old chorus girl-to-starlet fantasy from movies like 42nd Street (1933) and Singin' in the Rain (1952) gets an update in the vibrant Indian musical Rangeela (1995). Full of vibrancy, life and movement, thanks in large part to the innovative score by A.R. Rahman.
